The robust support our campaign has received after only two weeks proves what I and many who love The HUUB tell others: the strength of our community campus is built on the consistent support of people like you! All of our good work has only been possible because of the community members that love and appreciate us. From members of the staff to those that come to our monthly potlucks, the community that supports The HUUB is a large part of why it has made it to ten years.

We would like to honor some of those people by sharing their thoughts on The HUUB and what it means for the campus to celebrate its tenth anniversary.

Friend of the HUUB Molly Rose Kaufman is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the University of Orange. As one of our close partners, she had this to say about the work we share:

Being a part of the founding and ongoing growth of the HUUB has been transformative for us at the University of Orange. From the start it meant we were able to continue supporting the youth led creative projects that began at the ORNG Ink studio space. These included music showcases, figure drawing classes, art shows and a mayoral debate.

In addition, over the past ten years The HUUB has provided space that has allowed our other programs to flourish. This week we have been able launch our second summer steel pan intensive and are hosting two daily sessions for youth and adults. It is integral to our work as a people’s free university of urban restoration to be a part of the stewardship of The HUUB. Together we support the slow and steady relationship building that helps us all manage these challenging times.

We would also love to share some kind words from Priscilla Contreras, who we have to thank for The HUUB’s regular newsletters:

I’ve been working for The HUUB for over a year now, and it’s been a meaningful and positive experience. It often feels more like a family than a workplace, with everyone looking out for one another. We’re always open to giving back and offering space for others to grow and share their work. Especially in times like these, The HUUB truly reflects the power of community and mutual support.

We believe these messages highlight some of the layers that make up a thriving community: art, education, partnership, hard work, and care. The HUUB champions these connections through events and programs big and small, and we hope everyone can find something to connect with in our community. We again invite everyone to find time to visit our lovely campus for themselves. As we head into August, let’s all recommit ourselves to this wonderful community we call home!
