The HUUB is sustained by the efforts of tens if not hundreds of volunteers on a day-to-day and week-to-week basis. Without our community – this place would not be possible. Positions at the HUUB (updated August 12th 2026)

We are currently hiring for Joe Thomasberger Fellows positions for Fall 2026 and for one 450-hour AmeriCorps position at the HUUB for September 2026 – February 2027. See below for job description and information on how to apply.

Position Title: Joe Thomasberger Fellow

Supervisor: Managing Director

Hours of Service/Term: Joe Thomasberger Fellows complete a 60-80 hour term from September – December 2026, compensation is in the form of a $1,500 honorarium, paid in three installments.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • At least 18 years old
  • Demonstrated interest in community building work, social justice, community organizing, stewardship of community resources/old buildings, etc.

Responsibilities

HUUB’s Joe Thomasberger Fellows split their time roughly 50-50 between supporting the HUUB’s general operations and a special project designed in collaboration with each fellow. Past fellow’s projects have included the creation of a community art studio, the creation of a monthly potluck series, a research project into redevelopment and displacement in Orange, a block study of Cleveland Street, Know Your Rights trainings coffee hours, and many more.

Position Title:
AmeriCorps Member at The HUUB 

Supervisor: Managing Director

Hours of Service/Term: 450 hour term: about 5 months in duration. Possible terms include: September to January/February. See Americorps flyer below for more details including compensation information.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • At least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident

Service Responsibilities (variable depending on position, interests and strengths): 

The HUUB is a community campus for joy, solidarity, and human rights, based in Orange, NJ. The community campus is home to The HUUB, University of Orange, Lanbi Center for Civics and Humanities, and the Laundry Workers Center – all grassroots non-profit organizations providing an array of programming and services in our buildings and grounds. The HUUB works with these and other partners to achieve the synergies of collective, coalition, and community work. We are also home to the Ben Jones Community Gardens and the Norbert Copek Community Art Studio. The HUUB is hiring one AmeriCorps Service position to support core operations and programming. HUUB AmeriCorps members will also receive on-site training from HUUB Leadership and other partner organizations in fields such as community building, community organizing, building maintenance, door-knocking and fieldwork, community gardening etc. Possible responsibilities, depending on candidates experience and interests, include:

● Work with the HUUB team to manage the HUUB’s calendar and provide support to groups using the space for community meetings etc. 

● Document events through photography and interview for social media and communications

● Attend and support events/classes/ etc. at the HUUB 

● Provide program support for the HUUB and key partners, depending on interests and availability 

● Contribute to programs: Ben Jones Community Gardens, 100-Year-Old-House program, Planning to Stay campaign, Building Solidarity potlucks
