Our Solidarity Potlucks are a regular opportunity for our HUUB family and friends to gather. On the third Monday of every month, we welcome new and familiar faces alike for a meal from 6-8 PM in our Parish Hall. During this time, we nourish both our stomachs and our spirits as we share in good food and good company.

Mutual aid is the heart of our potlucks. In 2016, we had our inaugural class of Joe Thomasberger “Community listening” Fellows, whose focus was on projects connecting with welcoming our community to our campus. That same Fall, the 2016 presidential election left many people emotional, uncertain, and lacking connection. Recognizing the community’s need for support, HUUB Fellow Holly Barszcz began our Solidarity Potlucks. The HUUB and University of Orange have been hosting potlucks monthly ever since! Even during Covid, we offered “tea time” Zoom gatherings to stay connected.

Several traditions have formed over the years, including potlucks for an annual Community Seder, Iftar, University of Orange’s graduation potluck, and a collaboration with the Thomas Edison Film Festival. Most months have a theme, speaker, program, or art activity. Each month brings new faces and new foods to try!

While there will always be something at the table, our potlucks truly shine when community members pitch in. A contribution is never required, but we encourage everyone to give as they are able. Whether that means showing off a signature homemade dish or picking up some pizza on your way, your gift will be greatly appreciated. You never know what profound connections even your simplest gesture could spark!
